| | Universe Began at the Singular Point |
The universe is massive, as you know, but when, how and where did it all begin?
As we've said in the previous chapter (The Universe Today), now, the universe is expanding. So, the universe is a little bigger now than it was a few seconds ago. Before you were born, the universe was a little smaller, and before the earth was born, it was much smaller. If we go back to the time when no one knows, the universe should be extremely small and even nonexistent.
In the cosmology today, this first point of time where maybe nothing existed is called the singular point, the beginning of universe. By examining the speed of the universe today, expansion and deceleration, we can estimate that it all began 15 billion years ago, plus or minus 5 billion years.
If you go back in time, the universe will compress towards the singular point. As you know, in the early universe, because such large space was compressed into a small volume, it was very dense. If the density in an enclosed space rises, the temperature increases. The singular point, although a point infinitely small, can have an infinitely high density and temperature.
The universe began with an explosive expansion from that single point that has a super-high-temperature and super-high-density. This explosion is called the Big Bang.
